Roof edges and attached outdoor spaces
If your home has a covered patio, porch or later roof addition, its connection to the main roof deserves attention during a leak inspection. Different slopes and materials can meet at a short transition, while a wall above the lower roof sends additional water toward that joint.
The covering must suit the slope, and flashing has to connect the roof with the wall’s weather protection. A leak at the outer edge can begin higher up where those layers meet. Covering the visible seam with sealant may leave the actual route underneath untouched.
The repair scope should explain how far the joint needs to be opened and what material can be retained. Where siding, trim or concealed wood is damaged, that related work should be identified before the connection is closed again.
